Very nice set of Evinrude 225 HP Ficht motors for sale. All updates
have been made, and they run perfectly. Compression is good on all the cylinders and the lower units are not damaged. 1999 Motors with 25" Shafts They are running take-offs from a 31' Ocean Master. Very well maintained motors that haven't been abused or run hard. Motors include full rigging, morse controlls, full gauges and SS Props. Owner went to 250 HPDI's and we took these in trade. We just want to let them go to a good home. Perfect for a project boat, or an older boat in need of new grinders. Listed for $5,000.00 on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2481789125 |

Two low use/abuse 225's for 5K... and the owner went for Yammy HPDI's... sorta proves the anti-Ficht point for those on either side of that battle in here. The auction has 6 days remaining. $5000 is the starting bid...but they won't sell for anywhere near that. The high-horsepower Yamaha HPDI's are something I'd stay away from: http://outdoorsbest.zeroforum.com/zerothread?id=210918 |

OTOH, those five year old FICHTs are continuing to perform well? They could
be a bargain for someone. Now, if only I had a hull to handle them. Butch "Jim" wrote in message ... I had been thinking of maybe buying a 250 HPDI next year to replace my trusty (& smokey) old Johnson 225. Where to look now? The Suzuki 225 or 250 maybe? ...or their Johnson trimmed cousins. Yeah I saw that thread and heard of a few other problems with the big
HPDI's. I had been thinking of maybe buying a 250 HPDI next year to I had about six engine failures on my 200 DPDI counter rotation twins before I finally got them right. Four on the port and two on the starboard, this is not a nice feeling singleing it in. Four were oil injection problems and two water in fuel on a boat less than a year old. The yamaha factory warranty holda about as much water as the tiny water separators on the engines. A shade tree mechanic finally got them half right and the guages have never worked properly. These motors are made to sell and that is about it. |

FishFan Yamaha/Merc and Honda four-strokes seem to be ok. Also, the new E-tec 250 that's due out also sounds intereting. Merc's Optimax seems as if it's worked out its problems. The Verado is new and heavy, but initial reviews have been pretty good. Heck, even the Ficht seems to have fewer problems now. I'd probably go with the Suzuki 250 if I were buing one today. I think the problem with the HPDI is the fact that they're trying to atomize gas at 1000 psi. That much pressure in a motor running 5000+ rpm seems like a recipe for trouble. |
