My mid to late 60's Evinrude (40HP) sometimes jumps out of gear, but
only for a few seconds, what might be the cause of this? The motor will go into gear fine but under power it will jump out of gear and loose power and than go back into gear again with a BANG!! Thanks in advance Tackle |

Try adjusting the shift cable approx 1/2 full turn on the adjuster to allow
the cable to further engage forward gear. After adjusting make sure you still have a solid neutral and reverse. If you keep doing this long - you will tear up the clutch dog in the lower unit and will have to have a rebuild of the lower unit (which is not cheap). -- Tony my boats at http://t.thomas.home.mchsi.com "Tackle" wrote in message om...
