Default Priming areator pump

My aerator pump (new from Wally World) is difficult to get started pumping
water. Does anyone have any tips on how to get it to start while on the
water? Currently I have to repeatedly turn the pump on then throttle up the
boat to try and force water into pump from the back of the boat. Sometimes
I have luck getting it started by switching the pump on just prior to
throttling back and allowing the wake to catch the transom to force water
in. I was wondering If I should rig a primer bulb inline before the pump to
get the water to the pump...

Any help?
