Sorry for not posting during the trip. Was too much fun, and interesting
things to do while traveling. Went up to June Lake and Mammoth, Calif for a few days. Took the kayak and float tube, and left the boat home. Small lakes and streams, and a long tow through Yosemite Park. Friday night, VERY WINDY! Too windy for most of the 4 days to use the kayak. Fished a few streams, for not much in the way of trout. Mostly Caddis (hate tying on those little #20 hooks), and Olive Matuscas for flies. Mostly aspen trees caught with the fly. Salmon eggs and worms were doing most of the catching in Rush Creek. Fished Starkweather Lake in the Devil's Post pile area, for small trout on mosquito pattern. The mornings were cold, 25 Sunday morning and ice forming in the guides of the fly rod. 60's during the day. The Aspens were in full color. Fantastic viewing, clear days, gray mountains, and aspens in fall color and sage brush for gray green ground color and lots of lodgepole pines and red cedars for contrast. Surprising how many people driving the Tioga road and Tuolumne meadows areas of Yosemite this time of year. |

I love Yellowstone and in particular Yellowstone Lake - I've caught some really great fish there. Glad you had a good time. And the float tube did not use much gasoline for the lake fishing. Only fished the Madison in YS. Near the Madison campground. First fish I ever caught on a fly. Yellowstone is on the short list of places to go to. Is about a 20 hour drive from here. Some of us are talking about driving to Alaska next year. About a 7 week trip. Always wanted to do the drive since some older cousins did the trip in 1953. Will be easier now. They used 9 tires for the trip. And my Duramax with truck camper gets decent milage. 16 mpg for the to June Lake. http://www.junelakeloop.com/about/ |
