1) I no longer have Skipper's phone number. To the best of my
recollection, I met with Skipper in 1999 and again in 2000. I don't
keep junk contact information for 5-6 years. I was doing some stuff on
switchboard.com last week
and I got an "unlisted" hit for Dave Mann in Derby, KS. I can't blame
the guy, he makes enemies for a hobby.

For giggles I did a People Search on Yahoo for David Mann, Derby, KS. about
a week ago. I got an return showing an active telephone number and address.

Lloyd; You may as well decide to start a buggy whip factory. The era of
the internet forum has come and gone, killed off IMO by the search
engine.
If a guy wants to know why his outboard won't start, how to splice
3-strand,or when the salmon season is open in the Srait of Georgia,
he'll run a search engine. Going to a discussion group provides a ton of
conflicting advice- offered by people of varying crediblity and
experience, and no real way to vet who is talking through his/her arse.
The forum format brings in a bunch of non-boaters who turn it into a
chat room for the exchange of bitchy personal remarks, and extra-bitchy
personal remarks reserved for folks of either more liberal or
conservative political stripe. Look at the mess here in rec.boats. When
a boating related post gets 2-3 responses but a thread titled, "George
Bush is a _________" or "NG participant X is a _________" generates
150-200 name-calling exchnges *that* defines the character and tone of
the NG as it exists.
For gosh sakes, if you start one of these things maintain the ability to
moderate the worst trolls and most destructive posters. Rec.boats is a
prime example of people shelfishly hijacking a forum and filling it with
bull guano.
===============================
Very well put, Chuck. I still visit hoping that the NG will get back to
rec. boating. Like a wise man said, "Hope springs eternal."

Hi,

I've been frequenting a wonderful fishing forum full of great local
folks, but I've been wishing for a similar board for boating. I've seen a
few "Canadian" forums, but they all seem centered around the east (as is
can.rec.boating). Is there a boating forum with a West-coast flavour?

If not, I'm thinking of setting one up. Anyone wanna join?

why bother? Why make bitchy personal remarks an issue that doesn't

Congrats to you on finally becoming poisoned on your own manure stew,

You have such a compelling need to find somebody to tear down that you
turn yourself into an ENORMOUS LIAR.....(if you need that explained,
I'll be happy to do so)....just to create a ruse for yakking on that
I'm dishonest in business.

Remember this from about 5 years or so ago?

Skipper wrote:

I've shared that tale with the NG previously. So, one more time... We
became interested in two boats in the Seattle area a while back. One
was
a 53 Skookum and the other was a 48 Northcoast, two completely
different
boats. Chuck had offered to represent our interests for boats in this
area. However, I felt an obligation to the brokers we had previously
made contact with and continued negotiating with the Northcoast and
Skookum brokers. The admiral preferred the Northcoast and I preferred
the Skookum.

A few weeks went by as the Admiral made convincing arguments for the
Northcoast. I called the broken to make an offer and was told the boat
had just been sold. Had we retained Chuck to represent our interests, I

believe that disappointment could have been avoided.

Two more weeks went by as I made the case for the Skookum in Anacortes.

The Admiral finally relented and I called the listing broker. Good
news,
the boat was still available and as the boat had been for sale for over

a year with no takers, the broker thought our offer would be accepted.
He called the next day to say he had spoken with the owner's wife and
that she had accepted the deal pending her husbands return (was
ferrying
a Nordhavn to Hawaii). We thought the deal was done.

A week passed with no new information so I started calling daily. We
were repeatedly told to rest assured and that the owner's return was
just a "formality", and "his wife had accepted the offer". Well, we
went
through 4 weeks of this uncertainty, unable to schedule reservations
for
the flight out to close.

Finally, we called one day to learn that the broker had just gone on
vacation and the boat was sold to someone else for $10,000 more than we

had offered and they were returning our check. We had been lied to and
this guy was using our offer to conduct an auction, IMO. I also believe

that had we hired Chuck to represent our interests this sad tale could
have been avoided.

End of Skipper wrote.

I know I asked if you were lying then or lying now, and you chose
"lying then". (It's inconsistent with your character to tell lies in
order to compliment somebody). Even so, you frankly admit being a liar
so you have balls the size of the NBA accusing somebody else of being
dishonest.

Don,
Why don't you ask your good buddy to send you a copy of his Lobster Boat
Registration papers. He did that for someone who questioned his Parker
Ownership.

Why? I have no reason to doubt him. It's others here who require the
proof.

Have you noticed the historical NG stalkers are the ones constantly
demanding personal info, yet try to hide behind anonymous accounts?

Harry,
I have published all of this information 1000's of times in here, you must
have me filtered and you missed all my personal info.

Again, I point out:

The right-wing trashmeisters here are alway upset when someone won't
play by their rules. Starfocher Smithers' only purpose in rec.boats is
to see if he can successfully "hector" me and a couple of others. The
fact that I don't even see most of his posts REALLY annoys him. My guess
is that I somehow figure into at least 75% of his posts.

When I was reading Smithers' posts, I noticed that he hardly ever
discussed himself or his life or his work or his family or his boat or
even where he lived. Instead, he gets off by making comments about these
aspects of other people's lives. There are a couple of other righties
here who are the same way; everything about them is a big secret but
everything about everyone else is grist for the mill.

Ask yourself these questions:

Do you know Smithers' real name?
Do you know what brand and size of boat he has?
Do you know where he keeps his boat?
Do you know what he does for a living?
Do you know the city in which he lives?
Et cetera.

Not that having that information is important. But it is important that
the dicquehead very carefully and deliberately reveals nothing about
himself.

Don,
You are the kind of wing man all NPD's looks for, someone who is just so
happy to have a friend that he overlooks all of your faults and lies, and he
just tells you how great you are. Harry is a joke to everyone, including
Chuck Gould, but you are just so happy to have a buddy, you decide to
overlook the obvious.

No problem, Harry is glad to call you his buddy.

Suppose I could make up a gang of sock puppets. Then I'd have a bunch of
buddies. Do you recommend that course of action?

There is a reason why Harry wants personal information on people. I would
be very careful of giving Harry anything.
