boat trailer question
There should be a vin number stamped into the frame somewhere.
"Eddie" wrote in message news I will be looking at a boat trailer for sale by a tow company that has been in their yard since it was towed by order of police. It is a tandem, 31 feet long and that's it. Here is question: The id plate has been removed (was stolen?) and on it was the VIN and weight info. The tow company has gotten new pink slip but they don't know the weight ratings. How can I tell if it is capable of carrying an 8,500 lb boat? What should I look for, bigger wheels? Bigger springs? The frame? Size and number of rollers? Or am I taking a chance? (I can see putting my boat on it and the damn thing collapsing, lol) Thanks for any help Eddie |

That will tell you the maker and they can tell you the specs. When I have
built trailers in the past, the DMV always required the stamped numbers. "Eddie" wrote in message ... I don't think it will tell me weight info. OK, so you're saying that if I get the original VIN that I can contact EZ Loader and they can give me weight information? Hmm, maybe they can tell me where the stamped numbers are at. That's a might big trailer and the VIN could be anywhere. Eddie There should be a vin number stamped into the frame somewhere. Ok, but won't that just tell me the VIN for ID/registration purposes. Buying something that might work based upon the fact that it is cheap is just a waste of time and money. |

Since its an ezloader (popular brand) it should be even easier to find
out. You should have the size of the trailer handy, the number of leafs in the springs as well as tire size. I am sure by just those dimensions they can tell you what it should be good for. Lots of weight on that trailer, hope the tow vehicle is equally as beefy. Tom |

All the numbers I see stamped into the trailer seem to short to be a VIN? I really could you some help on where to find these VIN's. And my boss dosen't want me to hire any one to help. Can you please help me? ~Kat Bill McKee wrote: There should be a vin number stamped into the frame somewhere. Can you please help me? ~Kat Some manufacturers rivet them to the port side of the tongue near the coupler. I have one trailer that has the plate there. And a old one that has a plate on the axle. But that one just has a Serial number. no weight specs or anything. But it is only for light aluminum type boats. On the boats my 95 fiberglass boat has the vin on the transom on the starboard side just below the rub rail that is carved in the glass. The old fishing boat has a plate on the port side on the transom on the inside. So I guess they can be anywhere depending on age. Capt Jack R.. |
