Yeah. We got him as a frostbitten, tiny piglet. We raised him in

house,
feeding him from a bottle until he got old enough to eat on his

He
was
a great pet, would jump on the couch, sit in my lap, beg to be

just
like a dog.

However, they grow up and get heavy. When it jumped on the couch
and
put

it

about 250lbs, it didn't fit on my lap anymore. It went to the

Did you see Porky's picture? Cute little guy, huh?

You ate your pet!

The same thought crossed my mind when I read John's post.

How can you eat an animal you raised and loved as a pet?

Hunger.

Thanks. I don't question your circumstances at the time John, I just
would have a very hard time doing it.

That's the difference between those 'country boys' and us 'city folk'.

Here's another quandary. One of our dogs, the bearded collie, had a
nerve
sheath tumor just above
the left front paw. We had it removed a couple weeks ago. It will
reoccur,
and eventually require the amputation of the foreleg, at least.

I would prefer putting the dog to sleep as opposed to amputating the
foreleg. My wife would prefer amputation.

What to do....

Dogs get get along very easily with 3 legs, the can do walk, run, go up
and down stairs without any problem, unless he had other health issues,
I
would never put him to sleep due to amputation.

No it isn't.

Don't get me wrong John, I have no problem with threads like this. But some
folks here have redefined what is acceptable and unacceptable to post here.

I just want to know what the new *rules* are and for them to remain
consistent.

On a more serious note, it is worthwhile pondering just *what* Smithers
is doing in this newsgroup, as he never has anything of value to add to
boating or fishing discussions, and when he does post something that
isn't a direct or veiled insult, it usually is a newsclip he probably
finds by putting "boating" in his search engine. A lot of effort just to
have something-anything to post here that is on topic, eh?

Harry, I'd decided not to respond to obvious trolls, but I'll make an
exception.

I was the one who JimH was referring to in his comment, "... your obvious
troll about dogs and euthanasia..." Smithers had made a response to my
post.

Your post is nothing more than a personal attack against one who has made
no personal attacks against you, at least since Chuck's challenge. He has
added value to discussions, without veiled or direct insults, and has
seldom cut'n'pasted his comments. I won't get in to the number of your
posts that have been *only* personal attacks.

Why you find this behavior necessary is beyond me.

Right now, Senator Durbin is giving Alito the same ration of **** he's
gotten for many hours already. Why don't you go watch C-Span and enjoy the
day?

The problem is John that the *challenge* has gone a bit too far in that some
folks are now deciding what is and is not appropriate to post here. Pigs
and Nigerian scams are OK. Non political current events are not Go figure.

What I think about the new and improved NG:

I appreciate the new tone. However, I think that everyone needs to step
back and stop the netcopping (as I have been guilty of in the past, and
perhaps am guilty of with this post). I think folks should be allowed to
post whatever they want to. I think that folks should take it upon
themselves to decide what discussions they want to participate in. I think
some folks here need to remain consistent on what they find acceptable and
not acceptable here (I know I do).

What do you think?

I think, JimH, the desire is to have a news group without the acrimony,

That concept is not hard to understand. Anyone with more than a week's
worth of watching a month ago knows that the political threads almost
invariably resulted in the behavior mentioned above. Photography threads
have yet to do so, nor have 'pet' threads (until today, of course).

Perhaps you and Harry would be happier in a.politics?

Your opinion of Smithers and what he is doing differs from mine.

I watched a bit of the Alito show yesterday. He's a very smart fellow,
very skilled at evasion, and there's no doubt in my mind he'll do
whatever he can to overturn Roe v. Wade, expand presidential
"authority," decrease privacy, and do whatever else he can to further
the right-wing agenda. And that's not a political statement, but a
statement of opinion.

You ate your pet!

The same thought crossed my mind when I read John's post.

How can you eat an animal you raised and loved as a pet?

Hunger.

Thanks. I don't question your circumstances at the time John, I
just
would have a very hard time doing it.

That's the difference between those 'country boys' and us 'city
folk'.

Here's another quandary. One of our dogs, the bearded collie, had a
nerve
sheath tumor just above
the left front paw. We had it removed a couple weeks ago. It will
reoccur,
and eventually require the amputation of the foreleg, at least.

I would prefer putting the dog to sleep as opposed to amputating
the
foreleg. My wife would prefer amputation.

What to do....

Dogs get get along very easily with 3 legs, the can do walk, run, go
up
and down stairs without any problem, unless he had other health
issues,
I
would never put him to sleep due to amputation.

Please take your obvious troll about dogs and euthanasia to the
appropriate
forum or NG. This is strictly a boating NG.

This thread *is* boating related!

No it isn't.

Don't get me wrong John, I have no problem with threads like this. But
some
folks here have redefined what is acceptable and unacceptable to post
here.

I just want to know what the new *rules* are and for them to remain
consistent.

I think, JimH, the desire is to have a news group without the acrimony,
ascerbity, and asperity that existed here a few short weeks ago.

I have not posted anything regarding politics here for quite some time.
Why
do you make that comment to me John rather than addressing the issue I
brought up........remaining consistent on what is acceptable and
unacceptable to post here.

The first two paragraphs addressed your comment new 'rules'.

I think you should be able post what you want to in an un-moderated NG
without being netcopped. If folks want to participate in the thread they
have that option. If folks do not want to participate in the thread they
have that option also.

What is upsetting some folks, including me, are the self appointed netcops
deciding what is appropriate or not appropriate to post here. I know I
may have been in that group late last month and realize now that it was
wrong.

What everyone should be focused on is stopping the name calling and flames
rather than deciding what can and cannot be posted here and telling folks
where to post it. That alone will make this NG a pleasure to visit.
