MP3 Players/Accessories for Boat Use?
Anyone using their iPODs on their boats? IF so, are you playing through
an existing stereo system, or through one of the newer car/boat dash stereos with an MP3 player input, or...just hooking up to external iPOD speakers? Depending on what radio you have in your boat there may be an adapter for it. Several companies make iPod adapters that integrate with the radio. Some act as a replacement for the CD changer, and since the ipod holds considerably more songs most folks don't miss losing use of the player. Other adapters tie into an auxilliary input on the head unit. If you don't already have some sort of remote for the radio then consider just getting a new radio entirely. One that has support for an iPod. Or, if you've already got a remote than consider getting a new ipod-compatible head unit that will work with it. The FM modulator options do work but the fidelity is usually not very good. Same thing goes with cassette tape adapters. The tape adapters are problematic in that they usually cause the door on the tape player to remain open, allowing crud to get in there. But I'm not sure how many boats would even have a tape player, precisely because of issues with heads getting dirty. -Bill Kearney |
