Sans monitors, there's just no reasonable way to bring it back from the small-minded off-topic chatroom and flamefest it has become. We have a small minority of posters who are trollers. We have a small minority of posters who can't resist getting hooked. Small minority? Actually, it's the *majority* of those still posting to this NG. I recently polled a sampling of NG regulars, contributors to other boating NGs, and past rec.boats contributors. The response was revealing; no current rec.boats posters were in favor of moderating the flame, almost all past contributors and contributors to other boating groups favored moderation. You made your moderating post in rec.boats.cruising and got laughed out of the group. Now you're saying 'almost all...contributors...were in favor..." That's garbage. There are four or five regular trollers here. I would consider you one of them. They are certainly not the 'majority'. Most of the trollers are also the 'hookees', and just keep the crap flowing. -- 'Til next time, John H ****************************************** ***** Have a Spectacular Day! ***** ****************************************** |

Can you point us to a couple posts *from* the cruising group that back up your claim? There are four or five regular trollers here. I would consider you one of them. Would you care to point us toward a post of yours that would not be defined as mindless effluent? -- Skipper |

Perhaps you could summarize the number for us? I for one vote no. If for no other reason, moderation slows the time of posting to a crawl. And then every once in a while the moderator goes missing for some reason, perhaps to actually go boating, and posting stops altogether until they get back online. No thanks, reasonable adults should be able to exert a little self control and peer pressure when needed. And there's always the KF for the other situations. My biggest gripe are those who feel obligated to respond to every troll, no matter how ridiculous, yours included. |
