With any sort of luck, we're evolving from a non-moderated group to a
self-moderated group where most of the participants assume the
responsibilty for monitoring and controlling their own participation
here. That's an idealistic goal that we'll never reach, but the group
has improved by striving in that direction. Moderators can kill off a
NG just as surely as continuous free-for-all chaos will, so the only
available solution is widespread personal responsibility. In a self
moderated group, peer pressure is a substitute for a moderator's
ability to kill or delete a post. It's a bit like a model of democracy
in action. Freedom of speech swings two ways; you're free to speak, but
others are free to comment if they agree, disagree, or (as in the case
of the thread that started this) feel that the speech was inappropriate
for the venue.

Why not discuss boats, Jim- and not your fellow boaters? When are you
planning your first spring cruise? Where will you go? Weren't you
upgrading your upholstery, or something, this winter? How did that turn
out? Still happy with the vinyl repairs after a few weeks of looking at
them? Are you secretly lusting after the "next" boat already, or are
you still enthralled with the one you now own? Any noteworthy, boaty
"events" taking place in Ohio this time of year? When does fishing
season open around there, and is there much of anything left to catch?
etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc

Actually I don't think anybody's noticed, but I tend to
point out errors & stupidities on both sides of the
political fence. Which explains my tremendous popularity,
and another reason why I've tried to be better with the OT
posts myself.

Do you point out your own "errors and stupidities?"

For shame, bk. Not at all friendly. Our temps are in the 60's today. I'd
like to be boating. Instead, I'm working on taxes. Shame on me too.

Not to add to your misery, but it's going to be just shy of 80 degrees
Saturday. Striper report on Lake Lanier is......excellent!!!!! I've
been spending the last few evenings in a marathon dash to get the boat
ready, get the bass gear mostly out, and the striper gear in.

I've decided to schedule no new sub jobs for the rest of the year, just so
I can start focusing on what's important!

I make sure my workload goes way down for spring fishing season, and
again in fall. I pay for it in the interim, but that's life.

You are absolutely correct Chuck and once again the voice of reason. I over
reacted and I apologize to you, Wayne and Reggie.

Hmm, no apology to me, huh? Pretty shallow of you, and expected.
