Old time readers of this newsgroup will remember Rocky Cantos (and
perhaps me as well!). My March/April AW Journal arrived today and what to my wondering eyes should appear but an article by Rocky on his 330 mile solo descent of the Rio Sirupa in Northern Mexico. Great read, highly recommended. -- Chris |

My goodness - rbp lives! I'll look for the article when AW arrives.

It reminds me of Rocky, from the "couldn't find a paddling partner able to go, so I went solo" thru an admonition that the Rio Sirupa gorge was unrunnable, to dealing with high flows and thinking about walking out. I'm very glad Rocky is still alive. Some of his early stores led us to believe he might not be. Chris Bell wrote: Great read, highly recommended. Yeah, I did wonder when we'd read his obituary when his first posts showed up here. :-) Sometimes you need a little luck, but I'm sure that having enough skill and wisdom to know what you really shouldn't run definately helps as well. Amazingly, I've seen more faceguards and full coverage helmets lately. Maybe we're slowly seeing some sense come into the "wanna look cool"-crowd? I'm not so sure that there have been less deaths over here, and maybe we just had a couple of years with relatively high rates instead of these last two years being low? -- Wilko van den Bergh wilkoa t)dse(d o tnl Eindhoven The Netherlands Europe ---Look at the possibilities, don't worry about the limitations.--- http://kayaker.nl/ |
