INT QAP 27.365 MHz USB Didn't know what QAP meant - but I tuned up and swing the beam in your direction - called for Wingnut...er sorry - Wirenut but didn't hear anything. Sorry I got your message late - I was out drooling on the boats. :) Maybe we can try tomorrow evening. I have to re-fuse anyway. The SSB uses a bit more power and I just used the power cord and fuse that the non-SSB had. I'll give you some coordinates, where ever I am at that time. Right now, Iowa. RCE |

The last time I tried CB stuff, the atmospherics were such that all you heard was noise on channel 19 everywhere during the day. This was back in the late '70's. Right now, out here at least, channel 19 has some noise, but nothing like it used to be. I can hear truckers clearly 5-10 miles away. I recall channel 36 (27.365MHz ) and a couple of others used to be used by the SSB crowd, so I figured that would be a good one to try. I'll give a holler and a long count for tuning at 8 pm your time, if that's ok. I have to confess. When I got out of the Navy in 1977, CB was the rage and I happened to have a Radio Shack base unit with SB that was ripe for modifications, which I did. It was peaked to 40 watts (from 12) PEP, and had a magic "button" that allowed 40 more unauthorized frequencies. I often talked to a friend stationed in Italy with it, early in the morning from my house in MA. I have to check the radio that was left in Mrs.E's GB. It's a marine HF SSB something .... I forget, but I think it has all the Ham Bands. RCE |

I forget, but I think it has all the Ham Bands. Get your ham license - you've got the electronics background and the code requirement is - well, non-existent anymore. You learn the code you have the speed requirement nailed. Problem would be setting up an antenna. Might not go over well with you know who. I am also a little leery. The cupola on our house has been hit by lightning twice in the past 5 years. It's grounded to the house electrical ground plane .... two, 8 foot copper stakes in the basement beside the power panels. The last time it was hit a couple of years ago the whole driveway in front of the garage snapped and crackled for several seconds after the hit. No damage, but we seem to be prone to lightning strikes. I suppose I could just set up the HF antenna on her boat and use it from there. RCE |
