There is a difference. Chavez is popular in his country. Bush has a 74% approval rating among Republicans. He's pretty damn popular too! Uh, about 32% of the voting population identifies itself as Republican. Yeah, but Republicans actually vote...and they don't need to be bribed by people handing out cigarettes. When Clinton hit 37% approval in Gallup's poll, he had only a 63% approval rating among his own party. Bush's popularity among Republicans is phenomenal. The only reason it's not in the mid-80's is because of his stance on immigration. But his speech the other night should help that. He sucks, but so do the Dem's candidates. Only thing worse than Bush's rating is Congress's. 28% approval. The Democrats better come up with something better than "elect me and all will improve". People want to know platforms. Libertarian may take a big jump if they come out with a common sense platform. Forget about abortion, etc. come up with a valid guest worker program for the poor, to match the H-1 visa for the educated guest worker, a child born here does not get citizenship if the parents are here illegally, valid plan to control spending and the pork barrel part especially. And if they come up with a sensible solution to the looming Social Security disaster, that would be the icing on the cake. |
