So apparently, gas isn't an issue to boaters..

Long runs out to Martha's or Block - hell, even down to the Race which isn't all that far either are much fewer. However, it is interesting to note that the outboard crowd, in particular those with newer EFI or DI engines, are still zipping around about the same as they used to. I know that I thank BRP for E-TECS. :) It's killin' me but I have definitely cut back on my pwc'ing this season, only riding once a week tops and keeping it to a tank or less every ride so far instead of the usual epic rides including filling up a second tank far from home to come back. Thanks to my Yamaha 4-stroke I can still cover a lot of miles on that one tank, but the price of gas as well as my own financial situation has definitely caused me to cut back a bit. Still stay out all day but with more/longer beach breaks. richforman |

The high price of gas IS a good thing. (Just kidding ... but I was almost knocked off the boat while we were putting up the rigging when a jet ski zoomed by obviously piloted by someone who couldn't read the "No Wake. 5 KPH" sign he had just flown past) And of course, the price of gas isn't an issue for sailors. We may spend $60 on gas this summer instead of $30 like last summer. True, but wait until the next time you purchase a synthetic sail made from a vast quantity of crude oil. |

Hopefully that person had his incorrect behavior pointed out to him by a sympathetic soul. I would have done stuff like that on my first season out on a jetski, back about a decade ago, I didn't know anything at first about boating and proper behavior on the water, but the more experienced guys I was riding with set me straight pretty quickly and I learned about no-wake zones (also from getting a ticket or two), wide berths, slowing down around other boaters, fishermen, marinas, etc; and in the eight years since, well obviously I've known what to do. That's another reason why I'm very glad that New York State and others now require basic boating safety education in order to legally ride a pwc now (they didn't back then) and think the same should apply to all power boaters. richforman richforman And of course, the price of gas isn't an issue for sailors.
