Default Trailer wiring problem

Hello.

Talking bout a 1994 Ranger 4Cyl.. purchased a T connector wiring
harness for 4 wire trailer with included tail light converter. Also
purchased the circuit tester that plugs right in to it (with lights to
test the tail, left, and right blinkers.)

Heres what happens to the tester

With my truck headlights off, I can step on the brake, and both blinker
lights light up (expected,)
and each blinker will blink properly.

Now, as soon as I turn the taillights on:

The "TAIL" LED Lights right up.. but if i step on the brake pedal OR
turn either blinker on, none of the blinker lights light up on the
tester.

This is where it gets good:

IF I plug my trailer in and turn my trucks headlights on and turn the
right blinker on, my left REVERSE LIGHT will blink. Left blinker and
the right reverse light lights.

I should also add that i have a tow connection in the front of my truck
( I assume it was, at one point, pulled by an RV by a previous owner
and he/she used this connection to work the lights.) It is a 6 or 7 pin
round connection (Just over an inch in diameter.)

My question is.. whats up with this? Could the front trailer wiring
harness have anything to do with why my REVERSE Lights blink? Im
semi-educated in trailer wiring, but i cant figure it out.

Gound fault or shorted lamp/socket, both involving the tailight circuit
on the trailer.

Default Trailer wiring problem

Well..
I removed any proof of existance of a Front Trailer hookup

The test lights are still not doing what they are supposed to.

I assume it cant be a ground, because then none of the lights would
work at all... (Right?)

The only thing Im left with is:

A) Bad Hoppy T-Connector
B) Bad truck.

(shrug) Any Ideas? 94 Ford Ranger.

Actually, it can still be a bad ground. Check all bulbs and all
connections to the trailer and clean the corrosion under them. I had a
very similar problem and made similar inncorrect assumpions regarding
no lights would work if the ground was bad. But an old salt convinced
me to go over all the connections to the trailer and it fixed my
lights. I knew it was in my trailer and not my truck as my truck
worked fine with another trailer. So don't go messing with your truck
until you try this.

I haven't even gotten to the trailer yet.. Im still working with a
tester that fits right into my 4 prong connector on my truck. If the
tail lights are on, then neither of the turn signals will light,
whether i press the brake or turn the turn signal on.. nothing. I
assume that my tester works just fine.

But heres the weird part.. when I plug the tester DIRECTLY into the
taillight converter (which has absolutely no indication of any ground
at all.) The tester still lights (well the parts that light anyway..)
But If I plug the tester into a 4 prong 'extension cable' which has a
ring terminal where the ground should go, nothing at all happens,
unless I ground it. So I have some sort of mystery ground.. heh.

Anyone ever hear of a test light doing anything like that, and NOT the
lights on the trailer?

Well.. I've isolated the problem to the Tail Light Converter... both
blinker wires going in to it shows voltage by itself, but on the output
(trailer connection) side, both blinkers will blink simultaneously,
though the one that ISNT supposed to blink will still blink (but still
not as bright)

My guess is.. some sort of short in inside.

Ok.. I checked the left signal when the right was on and vice versa..
no voltage (This is the taillights themselves now.)

So I move onto the connector.

Headlights OFF and the functions are fine.

Headlights ON and the tail function is fine...

Left blinker ON, tail function fine, left blinker fine, right blinker
blinks also (not as bright but still noticable)

Right blinker ON, tail function fine, right blinker fine, left blinker
blinks also (not as bright but still noticable.. just the same as the
other.)

Still much confused. T_T
check all grounds
