...........your trailer rollers or your trailer bunks?
Mine is 100% on the 4 bunks and I may have to make some changes. However, I only trailer when on vacation and during the off season. |

Mine's on rollers The boat never gets left in the water, only in use.
otherwise it sits on the rollers. JimH wrote: ..........your trailer rollers or your trailer bunks? Mine is 100% on the 4 bunks and I may have to make some changes. However, I only trailer when on vacation and during the off season. |

What's wrong with bunks? They support the boat better than rollers. I don't know as I never had a boat on a trailer before. The bunks are 4 to 6 feet long and I already had to raise them by adding a 2x4 under each of the bunks so the boat does not hit the fenders. The boat now rests 100% on those 4 bunks, with the keel rollers having 4 inches+ of clear space and never touched by the keel of the boat. Is this acceptable or normal? |

Bit disappointed with my new trailer and may have to adjust it. I ordered a custom roller/bunk combo trailer.. but the boat sits a bit higher on this trailer and most of the launch ramps here are a shallow slope. It's hard to get the trailer far enough in to float my boat off. I may convert the four 2" x 6" bunks to 12 more rollers at the rear so I can actually push the boat off and easily winch back on. |

Go to a plastic supplier and buy some UHMW plastic to fit the bunks in place of carpet. The boat will slide easily, with excellent support. Do not remove bow strap until trailer at waters edge. |

" Do not remove bow strap until trailer at waters edge...." agreed! When I was a kid we used to sit on waxed paper while going down the sliding board. heck of a ride! |

What's wrong with bunks? They support the boat better than rollers. I did not articulate the possible problem correctly. When on the trailer the boat sits only on the 4 bunks. The keel sits several inches higher than the center rollers and is therefore not supported in anyway by those rollers. Shouldn't the keel be supported on the trailer center rollers while the bottom hull also sits on the bunks, or is it OK just for the bunks to support the boat? |

I just went through this problem with my new trailer. Both the trailer manufacturer and my boat manufacturer felt I had enough support on the 8 forward rollers and the four 2" x 6" rear bunks. The deal is...with the hull shape on a sailboat like mine, you can move your bunks/rollers closer to the trailer side frame and the boat should sit lower. Some sailors swear you should have weight resting on the strongest part of the hull (keel?). Different opinions each way you turn. |
