Do you read all the boat-related messages?
"jesse" wrote in message ps.com... I agree with Mr Wizard. I don't have the time to sort through it all with a large portion of it being negative. And who ever put that post about the Annapolis student on this site was just wrong whether it was trash on his shoe or not. I signed up for the e-mail alerts so I could read about everything boating not to read the bullying that usually takes place. The Langley subject was great by the way and I will probably head across the sound and check it out. I just think that if people are getting off the subject or razzing someone they should try a different venue. In the words of G Bush Sr as done by Dana Carvey on SNL, Boating posts good, Negative posts Bad, Bad. George is a fishman too. Fishes out of a Fountain. Jesse Mr Wizzard wrote: "drake" wrote in message oups.com... I joined this group Well, there is no "joining" of this group - it is a freely available open Public, unmoderated Usenet newgroup that doen't require anyone to "join", Too bad there are no moderators to keep this stuff out. Too bad for you maybe. Look it, public, unmoderated Usenet newsgroups are not for everyone - thats why there is so many non-public, private forums out there. Please don't bag on open, unmoderated Usenet groups just because it doesn't suit your needs. Remember, information generated from these open Usenet forums are the basis for the data used in 'Google searches'. So down the road when you google-search "how do I ..." you may be drawing on information that was generated from a open, public Usenet newsgroup. I wonder how many others have left cause of these problems as well. Probably a few. Again, public Usenet newsgroups arn't always for the faint of heart - some have more thin skin than others. Thats why people start private forums. Personally, I think the public ones have more information simply because they reach a wider audiance. I'm not saying that its "bad" that you may have thiner skin than the next guy or whatever, just putting it into perspective for you, thats all (and trying to understand why you are "announcing" that you are leaving a public Usenet newsgroup - were you expecting to change the public or something ?) Rob After reading these links and the supporting links, found at these links you will have a basic understanding of "usenet". This will help you decide that, if you want to continue reading post on usenet, why a "newsreader" program would be more help than using Google for anything other than a search engine. noob rules http://tgos.org/newbie/rules.html Google FAQ. http://groups.google.com/support/bin/topic.py?topic=250 How to Quote using Google. http://groups.google.com/support/bin...y?answer=14213 How do I quote correctly in Usenet? http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote.html How to post a smart question that will get readers attention. http://www.catb.org/%7Eesr/faqs/smart-questions.html Netiquette. http://www.albion.com/netiquette/ Links to download different "newsreaders". Mozilla-Thunderbird possibly the most common and best choise for Windows users right now. http://www.download.com/Mozilla-Thun...ml?tag=lst-0-2 Fort-Agent - Recomended by many windows users. http://www.download.com/Forte-Agent/...ml?tag=lst-0-4 Xnews is a good newsreader but some have complained about difficulty in configuration. No longer being developed but has good strong support in the group, news.software.readers. http://www.download.com/Xnews/3000-2...ml?tag=lst-0-1 Please don't bother to use Outhouse Express. It's second only to Google as the worst way to access usenet. As a closing thought. PREPARE TO TACK! -- For Rob, Use "space Dash Dash" then place signature below. Signature will be deleted when replied to by the next poster. This avoids confusion. Signature should be limited to four lines or less. |
