How many think that we will be sinking into a deep recession by this time next year? Unfortunately, I do. Why, because Democrats are back in the mix? I'm sure you will be shocked to find out that the economy does slightly better under a Democrat administration. http://www.eriposte.com/economy/other/demovsrep.htm Oh, and as for fiscal responsibility, it's the Democrats hands down. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...-2005Apr1.html |

Perhaps we can now begin to repair our world relations, balance our budget and restore some sanity to our country. Thank God the country has come to its senses. My hat is off to the framers for their foresight. jps Neutered Bush...hehehe. Good one. I'll steal that one. Congrats are in order for the Democrats and their supporters. Eisboch The close margin in the 2004 election, should have told the Republicans there was no mandate for their ultra right wing policies, so it should not be a surprise that they lost Congress. I am surprised they did not lose the Senate also. What happened to Republicans who believed in a true conservative agenda, versus this Neo-Conservative agenda pandering to the lowest common denominator. If the current 1900-vote spread holds in Montana, the GOP will also lose the Senate. Senator Macaca in Virginia is about 8000 votes behind, not a total likely to be changed in an honest recount. I think we will take the senate. |

Can they keep the economic momentum moving in a positive direction, can they actually come up with a good plan to get us out of the mess in Iraq and I think even more importantly, can they actually emulate the Republicans and toe the party line without inter-party squabbling they are famous for. More importantly than that is this - can they do it without reducing the economic power of the middle class by staying away from taxes and more entitlement programs. It will be an interesting couple of years. How many think that we will be sinking into a deep recession by this time next year? Unfortunately, I do. The recession has already started. |

Yes, it's the republican administration's fault. For once, you're correct. |

Batten down the hatches. Even if Pelosi honors her pledge not to seek
impeachment (and she *should* honor the pledge and not drag the country through that pointless, divisive mess again) we're about to redefine ugly government. Woah. The political animosity in this country during the next two years is going to make the last 8 seem like church supper. Too damn bad. If each side is so fricking "right" about all of these issues, you'd think we could craft arguments that would stand on their own without all of the emotional name calling and hysterical rhetoric. I see no evidence that's the case, on either side, and I don't hold out much hope for change anytime soon. Political discourse in this country assumes the average American has a sixth grade education and an IQ of about 70. :-( (This will be my sole political comment to rec.boats regarding the 2006 elections. My apologies to one and all for mounting the soap box......) |

Look how little it takes here for a political discussion to turn to a ****-slinging, name-calling flamefest. |

After all "we the people" are supposed to have some involvement in this also, and not just on election day. If we continue to accept some of this nonsense as politics as usual, without also voting with our opinions and dollars, this polarization will continue and it will undermine the democratic process. Political moderates of all stripes need to make themselves heard, and not just on rec.boats. |
