I agree with you 100%. Politicians have set a new low bar.
Wayne.B wrote: I agree but I also but don't think its entirely fair to blame only the politicians. After all "we the people" are supposed to have some involvement in this also, and not just on election day. Hear hear .... If we continue to accept some of this nonsense as politics as usual, without also voting with our opinions and dollars, this polarization will continue and it will undermine the democratic process. Yep.... part of the reason why polarization & mud-slinging has worked so well is that elections have hinged upon voter apathy: when only small numbers of people bother to vote, a targeted group of excitable whackos have disproportionate influence. *If* this election yesterday is the start of a new trend, especially with more young people voting, then we *will* see a big change in politics. About time, too! DSK |

That's the key - can they actually do something with nothing. Can they keep the economic momentum moving in a positive direction, can they actually come up with a good plan to get us out of the mess in Iraq and I think even more importantly, can they actually emulate the Republicans and toe the party line without inter-party squabbling they are famous for. More importantly than that is this - can they do it without reducing the economic power of the middle class by staying away from taxes and more entitlement programs. It will be an interesting couple of years. How many think that we will be sinking into a deep recession by this time next year? Unfortunately, I do. I don't think deep, but certainly a recession is looming. Natural economic cycle and all that. And I'll even give you the harbinger - Google. Google will collapse of it's own weight, will be involved in an advertising scandal, make some kind of stupid purchase with all that cash and start it all. Hubris rules the day at Google and we all know what happens when that becomes the corporate culture. On the plus side, given that trucks aren't selling well, I figure if I wait another three or four days, the truck dealership will get desperate enough to give me what I want for my pickup. :) Heh, heh, heh... Why would they give you more for a truck when trucks are not selling well? |

About time, too! DSK I think both sides should look at the Pombo race. A very secure looking seat, that got lost. People also vote their heart as well as the pocket book, and if the Congress-elects do not pay attention to the message, they will be tossed next cycle. At least we hope they will be tossed next cycle. The electorate, says move to the middle. |

Then it's the republican's fault!! BK, you haven't been paying attention. It's Clinton's fault. You have to go back two terms to find the blame. Ooops, I forgot!! Everything is Clinton's fault. I wonder how they'll blame the fall of Rummy and the Bush administration on him....... That's how Rs justify Clinton's success. Going back two terms puts you in Reagan territory, savior of all mankind, but especially rich bankers who robbed the American public blind. What gets me is that the Republicans CLAIM to cut taxes. They don't. They just shuffle money around to make it LOOK like they do. Take for instance in GA. Up until Gov. Perdue took office, a Republican, we had one of the best lottery for education purposes going. The HOPE scholarship. Keep a B average in high school, you get first years tuition and books paid to any in-state school. Keep a B average in college, it continues. Worked VERY well. When Perdue got into office, he almost INSTANTLY started putting his slimey hands on the HOPE grants, and made new much more strict rules and payment restrictions on it, using the money for other things. |

Is the lottery a tax? You started out by mentioning taxes. Nope, never said it was. For the reading comprehension impaired, read more than one sentence at a time. I said, the Republicans claim to cut taxes. They don't they just shuffle money around to make it look like they do. In the case above, some taxes were cut. Then the money from HOPE was used in place of those taxes, weakening what the HOPE grant was for. So, the GA Govt. wasn't spending less because of the tax cuts, they were just stealing the money from the HOPE grant. SO, what will happen to the people who were supposed to get the HOPE grant and can't? Why, the GA govt. will give them different grants and loans. Where will this money come from? Taxes. It's really pretty simple, I'm surprised you don't understand it. |

The paychecks may have LOOKED larger but they really weren't. ;-) That's *our* Bassy for you. |
