Default Speaking of Lobsters...

Thaks for the heads up, Tom.
I just finished watching it.That was truely interesting. I feel sorry
for the Dragon Lady, loosing some of their gear like that.I'd be mad
too! It was really good to see the Coast Guard, being on top of
things, with storm watch etc. Tom, I couldn't tell, what was that Jet
that was circling around the boats?
Did you notice? Anyhow, it ;ooks to me that "Lobsta" catching would be
a lot safer than those souls that go for King Crab.

BTW, Capt. Bro Cote, looks like he could almost be my twin brother,
except he's a bit heavier than I.

Tom, is there a season on Lobster? and if so, what do the boats do any
other time?

It was very interesting. What I found fascinating was the problems
with draggers. We see that a lot in/around the islands during certain
times of the year and you hear the inshore lobster fishers complaining
about losing their trawls to draggers.

In Narraganset Bay, trawls are lost all the time to cut buoys as they
lay their trawls so close to structure and in fairways.

Happens a lot. It was neat watching Dragon Lady head into Point
Judith. That day marker on the outer wall of the Harbor of Refuge is
about nine feet above the top of the granite wall and it was almost
underwater. :) I fish that area a lot - looks a hell of a lot
different when there is a storm surge.

Yes - it was the Falconjet based out of New London - they have two of
them for the 1st District - one in New London and one in Boston I
believe.

It can be fun too.

That's a good question and I honestly don't know all the commercial
rules.

There are times when the season is suspended inshore - I don't know
about offshore which George's would qualify as.

As to other uses, some charter as head boats for cod and the like,
others move south for tuna and other commercial fish, some adapt rigs
for scalloping and shrimping - it just depends on how the owner wants
to utilize his boat.

Do any of them string "not xmas" lights on their boats and join other boats
in a Christmas parade?

Well, I figure that those things can't just sit for free, and they have
huge expenses just for docking fees, ins. ,equipment and maintenance
etc, so I thought they would have to work a lot, And I was thinking
they probably did other things in an "off season", that is.. if there
was an off season.

No season. Except for the biological hard-shell vs soft-shell seasonal
fluctuation.

Lobster seasons are at different times in areas of Nova Scotia.
see http://thechronicleherald.ca/Search/9001915.html

Te fishermen up here go after other seafood outside the season...eg crab
if they have a license.
