Nautical word describes first cruising guide..
periplus (n): The first known sailing directions or cruising guide,
written between the 6th and 4th centuries BC by Scylax, who may be recognized as the first gunkholer. Pythias followed in the 4th century BC with his "Parts Around the World" and Pliny in the first century BC. (definition by Lenfestey/Lenfestey) ****** Pliny and Pythias wrote sailing directions and/or cruising guides? Not much new under the sun, is there? :-) |
