Back in the revolutionary war days, the British planned to attack Boston by
sea, (Battle of Bunker Hill) departing from what is now Marshfield .... about 30 miles south. The Americans, aware of the British plans, set hundreds of bonfires along the coastline from Marshfield northward (primarily in Humarock, MA.) to confuse the British into thinking that troops were stationed and ready for them all the way up the coast. It has become a tradition on the evening of July 3rd of every year that huge bonfires are still set, along with competitive displays of private stashes of fireworks along this coastline. Humarock is just a couple of miles south of Scituate and last evening hundreds of boaters got underway to enjoy the displays of bonfires and fireworks along the south Scituate and Humarock coast. Thought you'd all want to know ... :-) Eisboch |

Usually tea lights set into paper bags and let them burn at night. |
