well considered thoughts to the readers of rec.boats: I think Canada's gun laws are a joke, but it's not my country and the law has to be obeyed. Look in any history book under the heading "Boston Tea Party." The inmates only run the asylum when we allow them..... -- Grady-White Gulfstream, out of Oak Island, NC. The Canadian customs did do a quick search of both bikes. Hell, two 50 year-olds on Moto Guzzis are worrisome customers. Think they'd bother me on my Harley with the clergy sticker on the windshield? But why is the writer so interested in the church connection. Is there something there we are not getting, or is he just somehow trying to paint religeon/conservatives/guns etc into one picture? Why was the mans occupation even noted, and would the story have been written if he was say a barber? Just wondering, the writer seems to indicate this type of seizure is not unusual... hummmmm... Cultural thing I suppose. Up here, normal people wouldn't think of carrying a firearm...let alone a church official. |

Wow, times have sure changed since my uncle took me hunting up there. "Carrying" implies something quite a bit different than going hunting or target shooting. |

Wow, times have sure changed since my uncle took me hunting up there. They still have hunters and target shooters. But, Canada's been infected by the same sort of anti-handgun putzes we have here. Here's some reading that should interest and/or confuse you. Apparently, the provinces don't exactly agree on gun control. http://panda.com/canadaguns/ |

There may be others who carry a firearm, but hunters and target shooters also carry them. When I go to a pistol range, I carry the weapon. If I go hunting, I carry a firearm. Of course, I may not fit someone's definition of 'normal' ! "Carrying" implies something quite a bit different than going hunting or target shooting and "carrying" your firearm with you. |

When I read Don's comment about carrying a firearm, I thought he meant anyone transporting a weapon for any reason, including hunting, target shotting and any other reason someone might transport a firearm, including using the gun to comment a crime. |

I think I know what you are talking about, and "carrying" might mean "packing heat" to some criminal elements, but I really don't think that is the way Don was using the term. |

The most common definition means a law abiding citizen carrying a legally owned handgun, probably concealed, with a permit where required. |
