The short answer is because our Congress is full of dick-weeds

Nope, it's not that simple. Well, it is simple but that isn't the problem.
The problem is that for the last seven years the republicans have had
complete control of the government, all branches, all agencies, all
appointments, and a dictatorial executive branch. All of the abuses have
occurred during this time period. Put two and two together and it's easy to
see who's to blame. Democrats screw things up too but in this case they had
no power for the last seven years so all the blame fairly goes to the
republicans.

All it takes is a simple majority in one house to vote "no" and
keep voting "no" for one week, or possibly two, to stop the crap,
but that would end the big blue/red grab-ass match.

It's not that simple either because the Democrats are not like the
republicans. Democrats disagree with each other, have different viewpoints,
vote with the opposition very frequently, and are not united very often.
Consequently, they don't usually vote as a block. They also have very small
majorities, which also makes it difficult to get consensus. In Congress it's
also very easy to block things and hard to pass things. Given that
republicans do vote as a block most of the time they are able to thwart
virtually every proposal Democrats put forward and by supporting Bush they
allow his veto to be sustained every time.

A "Seven Days In May" solution is looking like a more viable [and
possibly the only] option all the time.

A warning to every pol in Washington == If the U. S.
Constitution is now a dead scrap of paper, there is nothing left

around, which included the House and Senate.==

Democrats.....BAD!

Bottom line is that it isn't the Democrats fault that things are going the
way they are. It's the republicans fault. With the White House in republican
hands and the parties almost equally split in both Houses the power is still
mainly held by the republicans. With that being the case the republicans are
going to be able to maintain the status quo until the next election. Only if
the Democrats win the White House and larger majorities in Congress will
they be able to reverse the anti constitutional policies that the
republicans are responsible for. Democrats have a different philosophy
towards the constitution than the republicans do. republicans have shown
they have little regard for the constitution when they are in power. The
Democrats have a history of doing the opposite. None of this kind of stuff
happened under Clinton. He, unlike Bush, respected the constitution. Hence,
we didn't have the kind of disregard for the constitution we have seen under
Bush's presidency. Simply put, when the republicans are removed from power
things will return to normal again. Most Americans can't wait for that to
happen.

"Most Americans can't wait for that to happen."

LOL...you have no idea how true this is.

I know of several Americans who never cared about politics.

Now they are literally counting the days till Election Day 2008.

And they won't be voting Republican.

The Republican Party is screwed....and did it to themselves.
