JohnH, Don't you think that is a tad bit too obvious? |

Wayne, I hate to have to correct you on every post you make, but I think you forgot the part about beating a dead horse. |

If you recall John, my question on Vista was to Harry. The dumb and dumber twins then got into the picture and the thread went downhill from there. What other "decisions" have I told you about and asked you to comment on John. JimH, I would recommend you use email for those topics you don't want discussed in rec.boats. If you don't know Harry's email address let me know and I will send it to your email. |

Almost double? Doesn't seem that impressive when you consider the personal computer market has almost doubled since XP was introduced. In 2002, there were 51 million PCs sold. In 2007, 96 million are expected to be sold. |

BTW, did your Vista come with a new computer or did you buy it outright and if so, for what reason. 1. No. 2. Yes. 3. Because I wanted to buy it. Every two years or so I assemble a new desktop computer from what I believe to be the best or fastest or both components generally available. The vendor from whom I bought the ASUS motherboard had some good prices on VISTA OEM, so I asked him to tuck in a copy. So, not only did I buy a copy of VISTA, I bought it from an OEM supplier sans OS technical support. The few issues I have had with VISTA have been minor and easy to resolve. All of my software but one program works just fine on VISTA, and when I connected up everything, it found all my hardware and installed all the necessary drives, but for one, and that issue was easily resolved. I run this desktop on the bleeding edge. It is full of beta and even some alpha software, and it has been rock steady. It is kind of humorous that my actual experience with VISTA has been relatively trouble-free and a good learning experience while so many of you are the wimps I suspected you were. But, then, I'm just an English major. |

wrote: Did you see where Mac has doubled their market share since the introduction of Vista. That is double the market share, not double the units. There are lots of people who like Macs but I'm not one of them. To me they are too cutesy, over priced, over hyped and way too Apple centric, which is of course the way Apple wants it. I'd probably get serious about Linux before switching to a Mac. Obviously not all consumers are as dumb as MS thought they were. Not at all. Those who have been through the upgrade cycle a few times are beginning to get quite savy about it. My friends and neighbors tend to regard me as "their computer expert" and when I advise them to wait, most nod in agreement. That would change if I heard some cogent and compelling reasons to upgrade, and if the compatability issues were largely behind us. I'm still running a lot of relatively old software that does a good job at what I purchased it for. If it isn't compatible with a new operating system, what's the point of upgrading everything unless there are really good reasons? As it stands right now you not only need a big hardware upgrade to run VISTA, but probably need to upgrade your application suite as well. I'm perfectly happy to let the early adopters sort things out, report on their experiences, and help Microsoft get it debugged. Micrsoft should compensate their beta testers in my opinion. |

These days, I give your posts the 10 seconds they deserve, but you do get more time than Reggie and a few others. |

Most would warn you not to install Beta software on your working desktop. But then again, you are an English major. Univ. of Kansas can crank out some really smart ones. How did you pick Univ. of Kansas out of all the the great state schools in the general area. New York, Mass, New Jersey etc. While I don't think of them as a top tier school, it definitely is head and shoulders over Univ. of Kansas. |
