Low transom boaters bewa http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/01/09/sports/SURF.php High winds! Talked to my buddy today. He had a houseboat at New Melones Lake. Was a nice boat until Saturday. Something happened and either the buoys got tangled or one broke loose and prevented his boat from swinging with the wind. The wind hit it from the side and flipped the boat. This is a 60' house boat. The house broke off the pontoons and the toons ended up flipping. Took a crane to recover the boat. The local ranger gets his sign. My in-laws have a place there, right on the edge of town. Trees fell on homes and cars everywhere. Going in to my mom's there was a tree across 2 cars in the shopping center by the freeway leaving town, and they had the cross street by mom's blocked off and you could hear the chainsaws running. Mom's survived the winds, but had a major leak in the dining room. Took out some of the plaster. Was bad install of a gutter a couple years ago when they did the roof. Has been wooden gutters and they put a metal one in and ran it into the stucco where the wooden one had ended with a wooden plug at the end. They just put some tar sealer over the end cap. My brother and I cut off part of the gutter today and stucco filled the hole. Is a 1908 Georgian. So we get a lot of experience on this old house. |
