I should also add that I will only be towing for short distances. Eg: different lakes around town, and seaway launches. No going up to the cottage type of thing. But true, I don't want to burn out my vehicle, or have the boat pull it into the water at the launch. I am starting to think I might be stuck with a seadoo challenger or similar since they are so light. Not much chance for that 4.3 HFI Mercruiser. I just looked at one of the manufacturers you mentioned and a particular boat - a Doral 170 Sunquest. It weighs in at 1,300 pounds - I can't say if that includes the weight of the outboard, but let's say that you get an ETEC (sorry, couldn't resist) 200 - say an additional 680 - that brings you to just under 2,000. Another 500 for a trailer, you are at 2500 +/- 100 lbs. With gear, gas, etc., another 300 and you are at 2800 - that's not THAT bad. You are right on the edge of the 20% safety margin, then again, I was over estimating everything too- any one of those figures could be off by 100 lbs. So it is in the realm of possibility - just depends on what you want to get. You will be limited in your selections though. |
