Originally, I went plasma because of viewing angle problems in the
living room. - Panasonic 42".

And I don't care what kind of LCD TV it is, I can tell the difference
sitting off angle, even minor, with an LCD that I can't see on a
plasma.

Now I have an LCD in my office - Toshiba 27" because I don't sit at an
angle to the TV. Comparatively, in terms of picture color, blah,
blah, blah it's about the same in terms of performance.

So that's why I went with plasma in the living room and LCD in my
office.

Have you ever thought about moving your throne within the living room?

Well, therein lies a story.

We have different viewing habits. I don't watch a lot of TV in prime
time. When I do, it's either something on Nat Geo, Discovery, History
or the BBC when they broadcast "Torchwood" or "Dr. Who". Occasionally
the Scifi Channel when something other than horror movies are on. Mrs.
Wave watches "Big Brother", "Survivor", the various crime shows and
"American Idol" which are anathema to me.

Also, because we moved to a small house when the last kiddie moved on,
when it's her turn for the weekly meeting of The Coven, I have to have
a place to hide because The Coven is all over the living room and
kitchen. Additionally the office is sound proofed.

Back when we still lived up the hill at the big house, it was much
easier because the barn is all setup with a separate room which used
to hold my radio equipment, wood shop and work bench. But I digress.

Additionally, because of my arthritis, I have a special chair that is
very comfortable for me to sit in - I have trouble sitting in chairs
in general, so it's just easier.

Or are you just the Galactic Overlord when your wife permits?

Expect a visit from my minions for such insolence. :)

I had been reading that Plasma was the way to go with larger sets, with the
recent improvements in LCD with the 120 hz refresh rate, I thought that
might have some benefits over Plasma.

After reading this:
http://review.zdnet.com/flat-panel-a...-32468193.html

I really don't see any.

Why would someone prefer the LCD or the better Plasma models?

We just bought (another) HD TV. This one is a 46" Samsung LCD. As I've
mentioned before, we also have two 42" plasmas and a 50" plasma. All are
also Samsungs. These are in addition to several smaller LCD sets from
various manufacturers.

I just finished hooking up and calibrating the new 46" LCD. It's connected
to cable HD, a regular DVD player and a Blu-Ray player. My impressions are
that it looks very, very good, especially after a few adjustments, but the
plasmas still have a richer, deeper color presentation, including the 50".
If all you watched was the LCD, it would be very satisfying and there would
be no need to expect more. It's only nerds like me that has to go compare
them, but the difference is obvious. The plasmas still are a bit better.
This analogy is not exactly representative, but the LCD display is like a
rich water color painting whereas the plasma is oil.

That has always been my impression, that the blacks were blacker and it
made the other colors more vivid.

I just do as I am told. The "bar" room has become the girl's night out
hanging spot. I had to get the jukebox working, install the new TV,
interface everything through the room's sound system, hook up a Karaoke
system, install a sound (music) actuated, multi-colored LED "light show"
system and fix the refrigerator's thermostat.

snip..

We could hold our regular 'rec.boats' meetings at your place same night
as the ladies. One encouter with the motley crew here and those fine
ladies will be looking for a new spot ASAP.

There are a couple guys here who I suspect bathe once a week, maybe.

Hey Krauseter, just curious. You mentioned your gun earlier. How did you
get it. If you completed the application accurately, you would not have
qualified for gun ownership. Do you have it illegally?

Don't be modest now. Tell him about the motorized large screen TV that
hides in the ceiling till you want to use it. Would be tough to move it
around the house though.

I forgot we had that.

For me it all came down to reflection. Plasma looked great in a dark room,
with a light behind the set. If there were windows or overhead lights, the
plasmas reflected way too much.

Given that, and the fact that I couldn't see all that much improvement in
plasma over LCD, we went with LCD.

The plasma TV can be used to save lives when there aren't enough blood
donors. This is so obvious.

This newsgroup is plagued with couch potato(e)s.

Hey! I resemble that remark (watching Football and Baseball that is).

BTW: I see Reggie continues to butt in on my decision to go LCD. What an
ass.

BTW2: LCD is the better choice in rooms with a lot of light. The Sony
that Wayne purchased (and I will be purchasing) was rated #1 and equal to
the many Plasmas in terms of picture quality.

Your narcissism is getting much worse than Harry's.
