Tough guys, all. :) Go ahead and laugh. Had a rock crab clamp on to my thumb, cutting it. Almost fainted. Had to sit down with my head below my knees. I think they have some kind of venom. That's what I think. --Vic |

Honestly, I'm not all that "girlie" when it comes to critters, but if that happened to me, I don't think I'd ever get regular again. |

Why we left Florida
We have more of a bug problem than anything else. Imagine when trimming
a tree, you all of the sudden get covered in swarming American Cockroaches that fly to boot. I use Cypermethrin inside and outside my property to keep these guys under control. I have seen brand new homes in heavily wooded areas infested with bugs and rats in just 2 short weeks. We clear huge parcels of land to build a house, thus we kill off these bugs natural predators like frogs, bats, birds, lizards, etc., then we whine that the bugs are taking over. We allow importing of huge lizards that kill off these natural predators. We allow ships to discharge their ballast tanks in our local shores and wonder how the snakehead fish & jellyfish took over many of our rivers and bays...let's face it, humans are stupid. And as long as we keep sticking our greedy noses where it don't belong, these creatures will take full advantage of our short sighted thinking. Jim Rojas I remember when I first moved to NE Florida and had my first "encounter" with a flying cockroach. I was...astounded! Our housecats took care of any bugs or lizards dumb enough to come inside the house. My wife would "rescue" the lizards and put them outside. |

Why we left Florida
Your wife should be commended. These lizards help keep many pests in check.
Just look at it this way. A common bat eats it's own weight each day in insects. If we had no bats, Florida would be uninhabitable, and so would the rest of the world. There are more ants pound for pound, than people. There are more termites pound for pound than people. There are more rats than people. There are more live fish in the sea than all the humans that ever lived combined. We are just temporary land barrons on this planet. We need to protect these natural predators at all costs. These creatures did fine for the past 250+ million years without our interference. They will be here long after we are extinct as a species.
