Actually Harry is correct if it is real 3 foot chop. Only a 19' boat, you
can get really beat up in that. Mine is 21' and only a 20 degree Vee, and I
slow down a lot in big wind shop.

We have a fairly hard chop on the bay, typically between one and two
feet when we have it. When I first came up here from Florida, I had a
boat whose hull was quite similar to what Herring's new boat has. I met
the chop and the chop won. By Bay chop I mean short steep waves, with
their peaks close together. Nonbreaking stuff, no foam.

We don't have a lot of two to three foot waves, per se, as you find in
the ocean but we have lotsa chop. And kazillions of boat wakes coming
from all directions.

Unless you like to either bounce or move at displacement speeds in a
small boat, you want one that weighs a lot and has a deep vee hull.

Thus, the thought of Herring taking on 2-3' chop in the mid-Bay is a bit
laughable.

Why only 3900? Is that a Yamaha break-in suggestion or are you
overproped? I just repowered my 17 whaler outrage with a 150 opti
and had to play some games with pitch and diameter before I got to
5400 RPM. Just curious..


I hadn't read the manual yet, so don't know the break in procedures.

was just a test run. I'll save this post and try to remember to get

you once I've read the manual and taken it out for a longer workout.


Your dealer didn't go over break-in procedures for the new engine?

My dealer prints up a one pager of significant instructions, encases it
in plastic, and puts it next to the steering wheel. This is *after*
explaining the various important procedures necessary to follow with a
new engine. My dealer also tank tests each new engine for a couple of
hours. It has a back-in outdoor tank in which engines may be run at all
throttle settings under load while mounted on the boat. Your dealer
didn't do this?

The break-in period is 10 hours. For the first hour, you are not
supposed to exceed 2000 rpm. For the second hour, you are not supposed
to exceed 3000-4000 rpm, or the low side of 3/4 throttle.


Did you just respond to yourself, fat man? Most people don't need a
cheat sheet to run their boat. It was evident to your salesman that you
required that extra help - including the break in on the hard.

BTW - you bought a BOAT not an F-16.
