Default Don't feel one of those everyday....

Just moments ago at about 4:35 am CCT we had an eaurth quake right
here in S. Ilinois. Things got rocking enough to wake us up. First
Ithought it was the daughter doing laundry (yes, at odd hrs.) ad the
washer was way out of balance. Nope. Lasted about a minute, but Thats
a minute too long.

now the wife is wanting me to look at the house foundation etc. Not
tonight. plenty of time to do that in the day light.

I wonder what the news will have to say about it this morning?

Sorry about that - I was experimenting with some new explosives.

I'll speak to the Explosives Master - maybe hang him by his thumbs for
a couple of hours as punishment.

Nothing - I saw to it. :)

I'm covered. I posted this in another group a few years ago.

Having miraculously survived a quake which hit Chicago in the 80's,
rattling my windows and shaking my living room shrubberies, and
reading that the New Madrid fault can level Memphis, Nashville and St.
Louis, and cause significant damage in northern Illinois, I figured
I'd ask my ins agent the cost.
Actually kept forgetting to ask until about 12 years after I first
thought about it. Then when he said sixty bucks a year I was kind of
hooked. I mentioned it to my wife. She didn't say anything, but like,
hey, how would I feel if my house gets leveled by an EQ and I refused
to spend yearly for EQ insurance what I spend every week for smokes
and every month at Starbucks for coffee? Especially since I had
already dodged the bullet for 12 years. And my wife knowing it was a
lousy 60 bucks a year. How would I feel then? Had to do it.
Peace of mind. Shoulda never asked. Shoulda never told.
***************

By the way, my agent had to contact corporate to get the rider/price.
Apparently not too many of us in the Chicago area are covered.
I'm still thinking about volcano insurance, but haven't pulled the
trigger.

At 60 bucks, I would buy EQ unsurance. A lot more here in California. The
last 5.5 we had local to me in 1980, The Greenville Fault quake, cost me
about $5.5k as the pool cracked. Eventually Chicago will be over the
hotspot that makes up Yellowstone. May be to far out for you to worry about
it.

Had a small tremor thismorning even about 10:00 AM I didn't feel it,
but people in towns north of me about 30 mi said they did.

Most strange....

+++++++++++++++++++++

As strange as it may seem we live in an earthquake zone and a fault line.

Sure do. So does California, and this fault may even be bigger, but
still, it's far less active.

In all fairness, and seeing you chastise others (well actually only Harry,
Don and me), why did you snip my sig?

Here it is again:
=====================================
"While JimH's son is wielding a shovel, my son will be molding the minds of
the future leaders of America."
      Reginald P. Smithers III 4-18-08 rec.boats

John Herring (JohnH) immediately endorsed that statement by posting this:
" If you took Reggie's comment as an insult to your son, you must think blue
collar work is some real ****. Shame on you."

To which JohnH later posted:
"Oh, I thought he'd been promoted out of basic. When did he make E-2? The
Army calls and E-3 'Private First Class'. I was wondering how he got
promoted so fast. I don't believe there is a job titled 'Construction Heavy
Equipment
Operator'. Somebody must be pulling your leg."

FYI: My son is serving our Country as PFC with the USMC and is Construction
Heavy Equipment Operator.

I cannot believe the nasty comments Reggie and John have made, but I guess
those comments tell you about their integrity and respect they have for our
military and blue collar workers.
======================================

Tim, do you agree with the nasty comments they made or do you think you
should make a comment to them as you have to Don, Harry and me?

A basic problem with this NG is the fact that folks decide to sheriff posts
made by those whom they do not agree with yet ignore the trolls and flames
made by those whom they generally agree with.

If you are going to accept the job of Sheriff.........be fair.

So having said that...........do you agree with Reggies and Johns comments
about my son?- Hide quoted text -

Well Jim, I would say, speaking for myself, what does all this have to
do with the "price of tea in china?" I really have no qualm with
anyone here, and I like ti that way.

I'm not going to argue with you. It's just not going to happen.

I really don't know what brought this on, but I "snipped" your sig.
line comment because it really didn't have to do with anything I had
to comment on.Besides it's several lines long and kind of confusing
for a computer simpleton like me to have to dodge it to read the
effectully meaning of your post. If you are offended by my snipping,
then I do humbly apologize. But I'll also apologize in advance,
because I'll probably do it again.

If Harry, Don, Loog, JohnH, Tom, BAR or whomever puts something in
their tag line that I disagree with or find it too cluttery for my
taste, I'll be trimming it as well. I trim a lot of posts, because if
I'm directly answering someone, there's no need to have about 7 posts
of history in my reply. so......

Sherriff? What's that?

Jim, if you would be so kind as to google up something that shows I've
been cross with you I'd appreciate it , because honestly, I can't
place the moment.

And maybe you missed the post I made just yesterday or so, where I
stated that if I had access to communique with you while your son was
stranded (iced in) at Lamberd Field airport in St. L, I would have
gladly gone on in, met with him, bought him dinner or a Starbucks.
after all, the roads were passable and I ws a mere 20 mi. away.

The offer on a starter for your lawnmower still applies (check w/
JohnDeere about their pricing!) same if you needed a starter or
alternator, for your car, truck or boat.

BTW, I usually have a pretty good memory, and it's known that Harry
and I haven't seen eye to eye politically and we've had our "moments"
so to speak, but I really don't think I'm at odds with him, nor he
with me.Sure we've jousted, but all is cool with me and I trust with
him as well.

Don? I can't recall ever haveing a cross word with Don. ...seriously.

So say or think what you would wish with me Jim. I won't be affected.

And thanks for your comments. I trust I've answered in the best of my
limited abilities.

Serving our country with a bulldozer is cool. You should be proud and
not antagonistic.

I can't figure out why JimH is so ashamed of his son. I find blue
collars jobs very interesting. Do you ever watch "Dirty Jobs"? Great
show with some great characters.
