Sorry to hear about that pontoon boat you got outbid on.

My wife and I are thinking of RVs as we speak. We went to a dealer last
week and looked at this one:

http://tinyurl.com/5lkdgl

Pretty nice layout and runs around $85K. It has a Mercedes 6cyl diesel
engine that supposedly gets around 20 mpg. It looked like it would be very
comfortable for two people.

But, $85K will buy a lot of plane tickets and motel rooms!

That's a beaut! Chrysler is making some damned nice vehicles lately,
the chassis will be fine!

The chassis is by Mercedes, as is the engine. It's the Mercedes 'Sprinter'
with a Dodge emblem on the front.

Hey! I jsut stumbled in here for a moment. John that's cool, but
you're right. 85K PLUS maintenance will buy lots of motel rooms with
good hot showers, swimming pools, continental breakfasts, etc. i think
they're being a bit optomistic about the economy, though. A 5.9
cummins in a much lighter dodge PU that is also much more streamlined
(like a hog) gets about 18 +/- and you don't have to find a lot to
park the thing in. possible $5.00 diesel?

What the heck, John. SPEND YOUR KIDS INHEIRATANCE!

LOL!

Oh yeah.. something else to consider. When you're done with the motel
and rent car, you're done.

If you find you don't like the motorhome, you sell it and take a hugh
loss.

Eh, spend it anyhow... LOL!

Well, it's probably kinda like the Porsche 911 - just a dream!

Actually, I like touring and camping by motorcycle. It's cheap, at 50 mpg,
and campsites are usually pretty reasonable. But, my wife isn't thrilled
about 8 hours on the back of a motorcycle. When she had her own, in Europe,
we did a lot of touring that way. But she's gotten rid of her bike as
riding in the DC area is not fun.

Yeah, I think he's got a Porsche 959, like this: http://tinyurl.com/4nse3x

I'd get one, but I don't think I could get a trailer hitch put on it to
haul mulch around. And, there's not a lot of room for grandkids in the back
seat. Other than that, I guess they're OK, if you're just looking for basic
transportation. Some folks would think it's not important to go 100mph in
8.8 seconds on the way to Safeway to get a tomato.

They're kinda cute though!

He's also got an RV similar to what I'm considering.

http://tinyurl.com/3gtxss

I could actually tow the boat behind the new version, which will tow up to
3500 lbs, according to a local dealer.
