When you are an adult and a guest in someone else's house and there are
rules posted, it pays to pay attention to them.

In my house or on my boats, no smoking is allowed, excessive drinking is
not allowed, use of illegal drugs is not allowed, and in general, really
obnoxious behavior is not allowed. If you cannot live by the simple
rules of the household, you should either not visit or you should expect
to be escorted to the door or the dock.

The proprietor of "the other group" has simple rules posted, and he has
repeated them in several forums. You apparently did not believe they
applied to you.

Unfortunately, "rec.boats" has no rules.
It is unfortunate to a certain degree. *You would have been banned a
long time ago.

If it's any consolation, JimH is sending me personal messages (in Chuck's
Place) telling me what a bad boy I am.

Post them here. *The three amigos/douche bags an not immune to
responsibility for their lame actions.- Hide quoted text -

Naw, we should just let it die now that my observations and opinions
have been pretty much confirmed.. Anyway, back to the nice
wreckedboats we were enjoying before I read that thread....

You are, of course, correct. All of this is not helping either group
(especially this one), and I'm not very innocent!

I logged into the group tonight to see how it was all handled there.
My post was of course gone, but the namecalling and such that
followed, directed at us/me continues still.. My friends would have
never stood for that, I am learning quite a lot here about them. All
in all I guess it has been good in a way.. Although I did loose a
decent sailboat over it all...;(

How did you lose a sailboat?

BTW, I received five messages from JimH, all telling me I was a sick
individual because I said something negative about the way Chuck handled
people like Harry and the problems between the two groups.

I'm feeling much better now, thank you!

You've got to realize that of the 1073 posts that have been made in Chuck's
Group, well over half have been made by three people, Chuck, JimH and
Harry. Chuck, I believe, is proud of the number of posts in his board, and
he's commented about that in the past.

A great amount of 'snarkiness' is allowed to exist in Chuck's Place, but
perhaps a look at the stats above will help explain it. One person over
there has coined the term 'Seagulls', in reference to the way JimH and
Harry squawk every time someone makes a post. Their squawks are a little
subtle, but 'snarky' would be a better description.

As to the 'death' of rec.boats - Chuck's Place has had 1073 posts since its
inception. This place has had over 2100 posts in the past month. So no,
it's not dead or dying, regardless of how much two individuals would like
to make it so.

Even Outlook Express can deal with unwanted emails. How did he get your
addy. anyway? I noticed that you flub it in your headers.

( The following is not specifically aimed at John)
It will not do any good to grouse about anything that goes on at Chuck's
group. If it upsets you, don't read it. The two groups can coexist
peacefully if they leave us alone and we do the same for them. There's only
a few babies over there that act as if we've ripped their bottles out of
their mouths. Filter them and their whining won't bother you.

I haven't had the time to keep up with the shenanigans here and there.
When I saw the post about the deleted post on Boatingforum this
morning I came here to see who did it if only because this is the
logical place for something like that to be initiated.

Now that I know it was you, I'm a little disappointed.

Your outsized indignation is misplaced. Yes there have been some
attempts by certain members of Boatingforum to present negative
commentary on what went on, and apparently still goes on, here, but as
a general rule, it's been pretty civilized and while not riveting, it
has been genial even among those who are deadly enemies here.

What bothers me is that you, of all people, should know better. This
outrage you are exhibiting is silly and childish. Boatingforum is not
an extension of rec.boats and rec.boats is not a part of Boatingforum.
While they share some participants in common, they are seperate
entities and should be treated as such. The fact that some common
participants hold views that are anathema to participants in either
forum isn't relevant to anything.

And I've seen this in action on Boatingforum. Somebody in the course
of discussion will mention that the moon is white and immediately the
usual suspects will "correct" that because the moon isn't white, it's
off-white and dash off an email to Chuck proclaiming offense, high
crimes and misdemeanors.

What I would suggest is that you just ignore it and move on. It has
nothing to do with you and your participation here. Fits of pique and
contumely on Boatingforum are for those who participate there to
control. In general, it has been controlled.

It's Chuck's forum. He can do what he wishes with it. There are
issues there that I don't like, including some of the thinly veiled
snark fests, incriminations and other nonsense, but on the whole, it's
been a decent attempt at Chuck's concept of civilized discussion
centered around a shared hobby/business.

Finally, give it a rest. If you have a need to start a fight over
some silly thing or another, just drop me an email and I'll come back
in a different quise and give you a run for your money.

A personal message can be sent in Chuck's Place without an email address.
One just clicks on a name and their profile page pops up with a link to
sending a personal message.

You're right. The two groups *can* coexist peacefully.

You've sent me a couple there, and they end up in the same place the
emails you've sent me recently...in the garbage disposal.

Again, you miss the point. We were here nicely minding our own
business. Chuck asked me not to mention other groups here and I
accomodated him here. Then Harry comes over here calling us names, we
still stay out of it.. then I go to Chuckies and find a whole thread
directed toward us being allowed to thrive there, full of lies and
misrepresentations. I asked a question to Chuckie as to how it could
stand, and he binned my post, allowed the pigpile to continue anyway,
and even joined in himself with his same old same old insults of his
own... You can have it, you can justify it any way you want.. The guy
is unfair and you not only know it, but obviously accept it with held
nose.. good for you...

Harry, if you don't like rec.boats, why in hell are you here? Go away
and stay away. If you notice, the group is alot better without you and
JimH. Not one single person here misses you.

*************

Something told me you would make an issue of this on rec.boats.

Â*Didn't take long for you to air your own dirty laundry, did it? Why
do you think that anybody on this board gives a rip what happens in
another group?

Only because you choose to misrepresnt some important facts will I
waste any time rebutting you assertions.

********

So here you are, crying to another discussion group that after
becoming a member of a different forum and making one post that
flagrantly violated the clearly stated conventions against personal
attacks, etc, you were tossed out on your arse. You should be neither
surprised nor outraged, you got exactly the result you were trolling
for.
Congrats. Now you can whine endlessly that the big bad moderator at
some other group threw innocent little you into the gutter but
continues to tolerate the presence of folks who have posted disruptive
content to other boards, elsewhere on the net, in the past.

You seem to believe that the mere presence on another forum of people
with checkered posting histories elsewhere is hypocritical within the
context of a "monitored" (actually, the correct term is "moderated")
group. Here's the important functional difference; the other
discussion group you refer to doesn't moderate past behavior, it
moderates the present. The folks you seem to have such negative
passion for have, in the largest sense, conducted themselves on the
other board in a civil and polite manner. The moderator's job isn't to
be some sort of "nanny" and head off every minor disagreement, but
merely to keep the general discourse relatively civil and free of
personal attacks. We strive to disagree without becoming personally
disagreeable.

Why are you so obsessed with trying to start trouble between rec.boats
and another discussion group? Get over it. There is no reason to be
"****ed". Your "friends" haven't "thrown you under the bus" by posting
elsewhere, they are obviously free to post here (as am I) if they
choose to do so. I can't imagine that anybody choosing one group over
the other is doing so because Scottie posts to rec.boats.

Your troll characterized the thread as filled with name calling
directed at individuals within rec.boats. Nonsense. It is a very long
thread. One post
condemned an unidentified group apparently intent on destroying
rec.boats with OT trolls as "snarks", and there are many, many posts
thereafter from various members encouraging one another not to even
mention rec.boats in the forum. The "snark" post was questionable, but
the response and overall tone of the thread was constructive and
nothing in the thread prior to your appearance was anything close to
as negative and nasty as the tone you adopted or the personal attack
content you posted. Except for your vicious little jab, the rest of
the thread is standing for anybody and everybody to see. Both people
here who might be able to stifle a yawn long enough and would
otherwise care to check out the tread in question will find it in the
"Scraping the Bottom of the Barrel" (OT) classification of the forum
you trolled.

Does it bother you at all to misrepresent the nature, content, and
tone of the thread you were bitching about or the post that got you
86'd? (Apparently not). If you were looking for an example of the kind
of behavior that certain boards won't tolerate- you found it.

You ended your vicious little troll with "I won't be back!" Get out
your red crayon and draw a circle around today's date on the calendar,
Scottie. Remember that as the first time we ever agreed on anything.
Should you try to sneak back in and attempt to stir up further
trouble, you will find that it takes a lot more than a new "handle".

I'm going back over to where the actual boaters hang out. As always,
the welcome mat is out over there for anybody who wants to talk about
*boats* (not other boaters), or who can participate in the OT section
of the forum without making personal attacks on other posters. Good
news for you, Scottie- anybody who left this group for the other forum
and who repeats your oscar-winning trolling performance of earlier
today will be back here to join you. (We moderate the present behavior
within the forum, not past behavior somewhere else).

Chuck, what about Harry and JimH trashing other people on your board?
Is that okay with you? It must be, because you allow them to do it.
