Mozart: Too many notes

- Salieri

If your reference is to the movie Amadeus, the line you quoted or at
least a variation of it was spoken by Archduke Leopold, not Salieri. In
reality, it unlikely was spoken at all, as the relationship between
Mozard and Salieri was nothing like it was depicted in that movie, good
as the film was.

WHOOSH.....

And it was Emperor Joseph II, not Leopold.

Quote from Derek Thomas's review:

"There is a delicious line in the movie on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart,
Amadeus, when Emperor Joseph II—who fancies himself as something of a
connoisseur about music, certainly what constitutes the difference
between good music and the best music, when he is commenting on one of
Mozart’s early operas. The setting of the opera is something we’ll
pass by, but Emperor Joseph is struggling to put his finger on it and
he turns to the court composer Antonio Salieri, Mozart’s nemesis in
the movie (but that’s debatable). “Too many notes?” Salieri suggests.
The Emperor agreed. “Too many notes! There it is.”

Pop culture- gotta love it. :)

Right you are, Joe the II. I was thinking of Mozart's father and the
*other" Leopold. In any event, Salieri probably never uttered those
remarks, and neither did the Emperor.

There is only good music and music that shouldn't have been written.

I wonder who should be the judge of what music should not be written.

20 yrs ago, I forecasted that Rap/Hip Hop was junk and would never last.

My guess is 50 yrs ago, someone said the same thing about Rock.

Rock has far outlasted rap.. My kids and their friends are all
listening to the Stones, Beatles, Seegar, and loads of other "Rock"
from my era... And of course, "Rock" is making a huge comback with
many bands writing and performing new rock music..

If Rap is still a strong viable "art form" and the most profitable music

Thanks for the reminder! I've not listened to that for several months. It's
great.

I'll volunteer. Rap should be abolished. Rap is to music as integrity is to
....

I'll also volunteer to be the DQ Ice Cream checker. They have become a rip
off.

'Tennessee River' by Alabama on Pandora - right now. That's music!

Here's my favorite:

http://3wk.com/

I listen to the classic rock station. This is predominatly
"underground" music. some from artists unknown to the usual public,
and some from well known artists, but songs that never made it to the
hit list, or recieved almost no air time.

I love it!
