What are the gotcha's with this type of boat?

Thinking about buying this '96 bombardier jetboat, twin rotax engines,
guy wants $6450, boat looks nice.

There no traditional transome issues, what do I need to watch out for
with this kind of boat? Compressions test?

See how much of a home equity loan you can get. You will need it for the
fuel bill. Rotax's are gas hogs and twins are really bad from what I hear.

The best advice: it's a 10-year-old jetboat. Walk away from it as fast
as possible. It's worthless.

Of course. I plan to hang on to my fifty year old jetboat. A
turbocraft with a Buick engine.

Your go fast jetboat has about as much in common with this sea dodo as
my runabout does.

*You flatter it with go fast. 35 or so. It started with a Graymarine
flathead inline six and turned 3300 RPM. We marinized a Buick V-6 and
got 3700 RPM. Early jet drives were inefficient. A slow 16 ft
runabout. Fast enough for a five by four lake [Spirit Lake in Iowa].
Pulls waterskiers just fine. Ours is SN#10. A 58 I think. Three like
it were the first boats to go up a long stretch of the Colorado River.

If you're only able to 3,700 rpm then you have to little engine on too
big a jet drive. Why don't you try a small block.

It is true enough that the pump is too big for the engine. However,
even as it is, nothing on the lake is as much as ten minutes away.
It is a license built copy of a Hamilton [New Zealand]. I think it is
a version of Hamilton's smallest pump.

'96 bombardier jetboat, twin rotax engines, guy wants $6450, boat
looks nice. There no traditional transom issues, what do I need to
watch out for
with this kind of boat?

The problems are;

- gas hog
- old, perhaps had the crap beaten out of it
- potential motor problems
- seemly Richard has an unusual boat

#1 gas hog - this just sounds like a sure thing, not much to check. I
like the two engine thing though - I'd be using on Lake Ontario (calm
days only) & it would be nice to be able to get home if one quit.

#2 old, perhaps ragged. How can I tell? I plan to take it to a
mechanic & have him do a engine & water test - would they be able to
tell? Anything specific to ask the mechanic other then "is it toast"?

#3 potential motor problems - again - would the mechanic be able to
tell?

Its seems the main issues here are with the motor(s). Since the boat
itself is all fibreglass (is it??)
