His buddies should have the fish and the rod mounted together.

State record fish can bring in a few bucks for the angler.

For instance, when I held the light tackle record for bluefish (9 lb
bluefish on 2 lb test), I got $250 from Shakespeare for the rod, $250
from Penn for the reel, $100 from Trilene for the line and a $50 gift
certificate from Kastmaster for the lure. Didn't last long - some gal
from Salem out did me significantly - 13 lb bluefish on the same rig -
made out better as I understand it.

I wonder what Mattel will give him for catching a state record fish on
a Barbie rod and reel. :)

Who is going to own up to supplying the line?

That isn't much of a pond. I'm very surprised it held a 21# catfish.

Hell, he could have left that catfish on the line long enough for his
granddaughter to land it!

But then it wouldn't have been a record.

A friend has a pond filled with catfish. He feeds them daily, some kind of
pellets he throws out there. The catfish come to the top to feed, and
they're big - probably in the 10-12 lb range. This pond is probably about a
third of an acre. Not very big.

Why not? Does playing a fish for a few minutes make it not a record?
