Ohara's sospender recharge question got me thinking.

1. What PDF do you use/prefer for
a. Fishing.
b. Cruise speed.
c. Sleeping on the boat
d. Hot weather
e. Cool/cold weather

Does anybody keep more than one PDF aboard for these different
conditions?

How do you test inflatables?
Seems you would want to know it will work when you go in the drink.

For the boating I've done we always just had floating cushions aboard,
but that was lakes where you could probably swim ashore in a pinch.
When I get my boat and get on the ocean I'll probably want to be
wearing a PDF at all time.
Is that what you guys do?

Don't know about your state, but here (NJ), those cushions don't count as

It's changed here in Illinois, so the cushions aren't enough now.
Used to be all that was required.
But I won't boat here anyway.

Here in CT you need a personal PFD for each passenger and you also
need to have throw coushions on board too.. Forget how many, I always
have carried two on board. I usually keep a couple of extra cheapie
PFD's on board for emergency.

You still need at least one cushion as a so called Type IV throwable
device unless you have a life ring or equivalent. These are federal
regs, not state. PFD requirements (and other safety equipment) can be
found in Subchapter S of 33 CFR Part 175
