Flat Screen CRT TV *Absolute garbage by z3rgling , Jul. 7, 2008 Comments: I purchased my first on in April 07. It died in late September 07. It turned off while watching it then would not turn back on again. I contacted samsung customer service and got jerked around by 2 different repair centers they outsource warranty work to. It took samsung until january 08 to replace it. Last night I was watching the replacement set and it died wile watching it in the same manner as the first. This one lasted almost 7 months! Now they claim I am no longer under warranty and I am more or less stuck purchasing a new television. I will NEVER buy another Samsung product again after this. Beware the flat tube! *Purchased this TV and returned it after a week. Couldn't stand the picture anymore. Overall picture was okay, but the flat tube apparently has problems. I can't return it to Best Buy after thirty days. I went three weeks before Samsung replaced the motherboard. It failed again. We haven't had a television again for 3 weeks. Now Samsung says it needs another motherboard. Samsung won't replace it, or say that it's unfixable. I don't want it replaced with the same television even if that were an option. After reading other reviews today, I assume mine must have slipped past quality control. Most units last about a month before major problems and the buyer is stuck with warranty repairs. When I went on line and did a review search for this particular TV, I found that other people also had this problem. We are going to return this one and keep trying until we get one that works for more than a month. Why? Because my husband likes the picture, size and price. Pssst, there's a big difference between a computer monitor and a HD television. ====================================== You're comparing CRT and LCD display technology in this example. It's quite a bit easier to design a reliable LCD display than one using a CRT. Lower voltages and lower power dissipation in the LCD units. If there is a large number reliability problems with OPs model TV, I'll take a SWAG and say it's under-specified electrolytic capacitors. Or, bad capacitors as received from the vendor. A few years ago there was industry wide problem in the Far East with capacitors that were not up to specs. |

Apparently they are used to this problem. We called Samsung tonight and they said they would have a guy out within two days to "fix the TV here on site" as they "already know what the problem is". When dad's went out, they changed the main board, but it could be the Capacitor problem you noted as the unit will come on for about 10 seconds then turn off and the power input button goes out. After being unplugged for several minutes and repluged, the power input light comes back on, but once the unit is turned on, it goes out after a few seconds again... My Samsung LCD 4096 HDTV allows me to plug a computer into it, there is a 15 ping monitor port on the back of the TV. It is great for playing games. There isn't much difference between a computer monitor and a TV these days except for the tuner. Doesn't matter. A monitor is a monitor, it does not have the ability to be a receiver. A receiver is much more complex and could well be where the problem lies. |
