MILWAUKEE, WI -- As the title sponsor of the GMC Offshore Grand Prix of
Milwaukee, GMC will showcase two of its newest vehicles, the Envoy XUV and the Canyon, throughout the weekend at Veterans Park. The American Power Boat Association Offshore race is the first-ever appearance for both vehicles in the state of Wisconsin. The 2004 Envoy XUV The Envoy XUV is the most adaptable SUV ever offered with unprecedented levels of innovation and functionality. Envoy XUV has features never before seen in the sport utility segment such as a power sliding rear roof, midgate with a power operated glass divider, all-weather cargo area and a tailgate that can be used in either a swing or drop-down motion. "Research has proven that a large number of SUV customers want cargo-carrying capability without sacrificing passenger comfort and accommodations," said Jim Herwaldt, Milwaukee’s GMC Zone Manager. "Envoy XUV is the first and only sport utility vehicle that fills this need," he added. With a touch of a button, Envoy XUV’s power sliding rear roof easily converts the cargo area from fully enclosed to open air. This never-before-offered transformation allows Envoy XUV to transport large, tall items upright, ranging from armoires to small trees and bikes. The advantages of an open-air cargo space give the Envoy XUV unrivaled versatility. Envoy XUV's reconfiguration features were designed to allow consumers to perform every functional change with ease. With a push of a button, Envoy XUV's power-sliding roof, tailgate window and midgate glass opens or closes. The tailgate drops or swings right with one-handed operation for ease of loading and unloading. And, the seats and midgate can be reconfigured in seconds without tools. GMC XUV and Canyon Standard power comes from the award-winning all-aluminum Vortec 4200 inline six-cylinder engine that delivers a segment leading 275 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. Powerboat racing fans will recognize the Vortec engine technology as it matches the Vortec engines racing in Milwaukee. For boaters who require added towing capability, the Envoy XUV offers an all-aluminum Vortec 5300 V-8 that generates 290 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. The 2004 GMC Canyon On race weekend, fans will also see the all-new GMC Canyon pickup, which continues the GMC tradition of providing customers with Professional Grade trucks. In the rapidly expanding GMC lineup, Canyon offers an array of powertrain, comfort and utility features. "The all-new Canyon was designed 'from the ground up' to give consumers more in a mid-size pickup: more power, more space, greater functionality and a comprehensive range of choices," said Herwaldt. The new mid-size truck is available in three body styles to suit almost any customer's needs, including Crew Cab, Extended Cab and Regular Cab models. It also comes in the popular two-wheel-drive Crew Cab and High-Stance off-road models. The full range includes the option of either two- or four-wheel drive. Under the hood, Canyon delivers plenty of horsepower and torque with two new inline engines, the Vortec 2800 inline four-cylinder, and the optional Vortec 3500 inline five-cylinder. All Canyon models feature a steering system that delivers a precise steering response, and Canyon's standard four-wheel anti-lock brake system (ABS) was designed for heavy-duty service. The Envoy XUV will be available at a Select GMC Dealer in Fall 2003, followed by the Canyon which will arrive at Select GMC Dealerships by early Winter 2003. # # # |
