The Kalmar Nyckel is seeking long-term volunteers for its independent
study crew training program for the 2007 sailing season. The Kalmar Nyckel is a 168 ton recreation of a 17th century Dutch pinnace and sails on the east coast from Virginia to Massachusetts. The position requires a committment of several months and previous sailing experience (preferably square-rig). An initial cost of $30 for materials (training manual and t-shirt) and approximately $50 for an initial drug test to be put on the USCG required random drug testing program is required. Room and board and training in traditional seamanship are provided, at no additional cost, in exchange for hard work.
