@twister.southeast.rr.com: Anyone ever paddled the NaPali coast of Kauai? Any thoughts on how it was? What outfitter you used, etc? I've only been there during the winter when none of the outfitters were running trips. I was at Kee beach (where the road ends) and could see why. The waves were *huge*. Kayak Kauai in Hanalei would be the best choice for an outfitter for a NaPali trip. Kauai also has several rivers that can be paddled (all fla****er). Hanalie river and Wailua river are both worth paddling. One thing I discovered about the outfitters in Kauai: All of them use sit on top kayaks pretty much exclusively. The use tandem closed cockpit boats for the NaPali trip but during my week on the island I could only find one place that even had a closed cockpit single kayak and they wouldn't rent it to me. |
