Finding a decent sea kayak for under $500 can be difficult unless you're
including recreational and light touring (i.e. a Perception Carolina) in the
category of "sea kayaks". If you're willing to travel I know of a Valley
Skerray RM and a Necky Looksha IV that are available for that price in New
Jersey.

You could check with some of the rental yak places up and down the
coast and see if they have any left overs they didn't sell at the end
of last season.
