Except its called the Democratic Republic of Congo these days. --riverman "Jack Mulligan" wrote in message ... The Congo? I'd pictured you more as a well traveled Canadian. Well, as you pointed out this group is truly global. I'll attempt to be more secure in my participation in the future. My wife and I are relatively new to the paddling world. But in the past 18 months we've gone from 0 to 3 boats (canoe and 2 sea kayaks). I'm immersing myself in Derek Hutchinson's "Complete Book of...", and lurking in places like rbp and rbpt hoping to glean more information from those of you with greater knowledge and experience. I am thankful to you and others in these groups who don't hesitate to help us newbies from time to time. Well, you're off to a good start, then! Not only are you hanging out in good places to get info in the offseason, but your collection of boats is well underway. :-) You ought to feel free to ask anything you want, as there are lots of folks here with answers. In fact, there seems to be an entirely new group of folks since I frequented here a handful of years ago. As you're probably finding out already, paddling can take over your lifestyle and become a force of its own. Its a great way to get a framework of how you percieve the world, and opens lots of doors to new friends and places to go. It also will define how you spend most of your disposable income. Seems like a lot of America (and everywhere else, too) gets lost in the humdrum of 'wake up-eat food-go to job-fgo home-eat more food-watch TV-go to bed' and paddling trips certainly bust that all up, in a good way! Hmm, a well-travelled Canadian, eh? No, I'm an American, red white and blue, but I've been out of the country for a decade. Probably that is what gives you the feeling that I'm from 'away'. It sure does for me! --riverman |
