I just got back from Turkey stopping in Austria on the way home in
Pfunds with Rob Hind who runs LiquidBliss rafting there. We paddled the Sanna - the Inn was so low that Rob cancelled a family raft trip. I left 10 days a go. Today I got this email from Rob. Had more rain, the other side of Pfunds got destroyed, side creek went off, 500 people evacuated, over 80 houses destroyed!! Nobody hurt!* * Inn went really high, so high they shut Innsbruck!!* Check the photo out of the Rossana and Trissana confluence.* Bottom left is where we put on the Sanna the other week (1.50 on the gauge)..... the gauge went up to 5m! All roads and bridges gone!! * Off surfing! Later Rob Sorry no photo obviously for this newsgroup just to say it is a mess - expect new rapids next season! -- Dave Manby Details of the Coruh river and my book "Many Rivers To Run" at http://www.dmanby.demon.co.uk |

Have been following this on the BBC website, there are quite a few pictures there though sadly I can't find one I saw the other day with before and after pictures of the same river. Quite a comparison. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/4176524.stm There's also a trully scary picture of a woman trapped in her car and a fairly complicated and thankfully successful rescue. I haven;t seen the video yet, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4187026.stm |
